Today is the worst day of any cruise…the last day. I dread this day because that means back to the real world tomorrow. But not thinking about that right now because we still have time to relax and enjoy our last few hours on the Carnival Sunrise.

We are ported in Freeport today and we were excited to get off the ship and help the economy out (if you didn’t know, Freeport got slammed by Cat 5 Hurricane Dorian this past summer) Unfortunately mother nature wasn’t on our side today and it rained on and off all day. Because of the rain, we decided to stay on the ship (as was the choice of about 80% of the rest of the ship too).

Breakfast – we ate breakfast in the main dining room again this morning. I have enjoyed our time in the MDR. We didn’t eat here for dinner but the breakfasts were lovely. I ordered the standard breakfast fare (eggs, sausage, toast) but Sean ordered the warm grapefruit and it was delicious. The grapefruit was cut in half and grilled. Sounded weird on the menu but the heat made the grapefruit taste a little sweeter (or maybe they add sweetener to it). Whatever they do, it was fantastic. Definitely recommend checking that out if you like grapefruit.

Spa Time – after breakfast, we decided to spend some time in the thermal suite. Those stone loungers were calling my name. But because most of our fellow passengers were still on the ship, the spa was on the crowded side. Well I guess I shouldn’t say crowded because the therapy rooms (steam, sauna, etc) were empty but the stone loungers were occupied. Remember there are only 8 of them so I wasn’t too surprised. Since the loungers were occupied, we decided to head to the Tides Pool hot tubs.

Hot Tub Time – I was so happy we went back to the hot tubs. At this point in the morning there was a fine mist of rain falling from the sky and it made for the perfect relaxation in the hot tub because no one was outside. We had the place to ourselves. Lovely!

We stayed in the hot tub for about an hour and then the weather started clearing. It didn’t take long for the rest of the ship to figure out our little oasis and the area started filling in fast. No worries for us because we were thoroughly cooked in the hot tub. We decided to jump in the pool to cool off because that was empty (empty for good reason because it was freezing, haha). We gave a small shout out to our VIPs and then we decided we needed to warm up a bit. It was around lunch time so Sean and I thought we may get lucky at the thermal suite and snag a stone lounger. Off to the spa we chattered 🥶

Back to the Spa – we arrived this time and the entire place was empty. It was awesome. We chose our loungers and we were off to relaxation land. These beds will be missed tomorrow.

Lunch Time – after warming the bones, it was time for lunch. This entire cruise I have been craving Guy’s Burgers and I have no idea why because I barely eat burgers on land. We grabbed a final burger and it was awesome as always. I will say, after finishing this burger, I had reached my burger limit. Guess I just needed one more, haha.

I really do love all the lunch options available on the Sunrise. Even on a busy “rainy port day that turns into a sea day”, we were easily able to grab a burger, a sandwich at the Deli or grab a little something at the buffet. The multiple options allow guests to scatter throughout the ship so even on a busy day, the dining options don’t feel that busy.

Pre-Dinner Activities – our Sunrise cruise is during the Christmas season and not only is the ship decorated for the holidays but they also have special holiday activities going on through out the sailing. There were special Dive-In Movies and special events going on in the Atrium throughout the week. Tonight we had a free moment to go to the ‘Let It Snow’ event and I am so happy we went.

This was such a fun show. There was an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest, Christmas carols were sung and it actually snowed on the Sunrise. I loved the snow and the smiles on the kids on Deck 3 said it all. It was magical.

Dinner Time – after the show, we went up to Cucina del Capitano for one last dinner meal. As you have read from previous nights, we have loved everything about this restaurant. Not only have we had the best food on board but the crew have gone above and beyond the call of service to make sure we had the best meals ever.

I’m gonna stop here and talk about the crew. We tell everyone the one thing that makes us keep sailing Carnival, above the fun had, is the crew. We have sailed on every major line out of the United States, except Cunard, and hands down Carnival has the nicest and happiest crew at sea. No matter what position, every crew member we run into is happy and willing to help no matter what they were doing. Ask where the nearest bathroom is and they will walk you to it so you don’t get lost. Truly some of the most genuine people we have ever met.

Going back to Cucina, all I can say is WOW! Nope, I should say All the WOWS! The crew here have been the best all week and tonight got even better. The food…oh the food…was so good. And not only did we receive our meal but we were also treated to chef specialties throughout the meal as well. We truly felt like we were family sharing a meal that just kept coming and coming. I started out with the calamari, which was cooked to perfection. For the main entree, I had the pork chop. It was so good, I will have dreams about it, lol. Sean had his favorite starter Minestrone Soup, which according to him was “the best he had ever tasted”. Sean also had the linguini with red sauce for dinner. Our special chef meals included the delicious risotto and a wonderful sauteed shrimp dish. Our meal was finalized with a wonderful biscotti dessert and a plate of special strawberries with a message that read “Thank you for sailing with us”. A spectacular ending to a spectacular meal.

I cannot say enough good things about the Cucina crew and all the crew on the Sunrise. We appreciate all the sacrifices the crew make to work on a ship and to be treated so kindly, we will never forget that. Thank you to everyone on the Sunrise!

Overall Thoughts of the Day – the last day is always a sad day. You pack and start to think about all the things you need to do as soon as your feet hit solid ground. But even on the last day, Carnival keeps the fun going and you can’t help but have a great last day (even when it’s rainy day and a port day turns into a sea day).

We are truly thankful to have met all the wonderful crew members on the Sunrise. New friends that we will keep in contact with forever. Thank you for making our cruise one that we will never forget ♥️♥️
