Amsterdam in a Day:

The P&O Ventura is actually docked in the port city of IJmuiden, a Dutch province of North Holland. Sean and Stef take a shuttle bus from IJmuiden to Amsterdam just a few minutes from city center. But first, as you know, they must have a hearty breakfast. Today breakfast is in the Saffron main dining room. After a fantastic breakfast Sean and Stef exit the P&O Ventura and get on to a complimentary shuttle which runs all day back and forth from IJmuiden to Amsterdam. A 40 minute bus ride later Sean and Stef are dropped off by the river boats and from there it’s a short 5 minute walk to city center in Amsterdam. After exploring the sites around the City Center, known as the Centrum, Sean and Stef check out the IJ Waterfront and the nearby canals. Then Sean and Stef quickly change some US dollars to Euros for use in the Amsterdam stores. After exchanging money, Sean and Stef go shopping for magnets to add to their travel collection and gloves because they cannot handle the cold weather. Then Sean and Stef enjoy coffee at a breakfast shop and watch the people stoll by the Coffeeshop Central. From there, Sean and Stef visit the Royal Palace of Amsterdam (Koninklijk Paleis van Amsterdam or Paleis op de Dam) on the west side of Dam Square in the centre of Amsterdam. After checking out the square, and Stef hanging out with her pigeon friends, they visit Rokin Grand Canal which features the equestrian statue of Queen Wilhelmina. From there it’s a short walk to the Grimburgwal canal and the ‘Huis aan de Drie Grachten’ or House on the Three Canals. Sean and Stef explore De Wallen, the Red Light District and then visit The Munttoren or Munt, a tower in the Muntplein square, where the Amstel river and the Singel canal meet. From there it’s a short walk to the Rijksmuseum, the Museum of the Netherlands. Then it’s a stroll to and through the beautiful Vondelpark as Sean and Stef make their way to the Anne Frank House (Anne Frank Huis) on the Prinsengracht canal. Now it’s time for dinner and Sean and Stef journey to The Pantry for spectacular Dutch food including Hutspot, boerenkool and Zuurkoolstamppot. https://www.thepantry.nl/en/

After a fantastic dinner, Sean and Stef take a sunset stroll through the various neighborhoods of Amsterdam as they make their way back to the shuttle busses just outside of the Amsterdam city center. From there it’s a 40 minute bus ride back to the P&O Ventura. What an incredible, unforgettable day in a fantastic city.
